Volvo Case Study

We had the opportunity to work with Volvo of America on several internal education videos focusing on their new 2022 XC60 vehicle. The goal was to take what are normally boring spec presentations and make something that was engaging, dynamic and visually stimulating. This video shows a brief glimpse at some of the flashier 3D scenes that we built out for this project. In the end the client was blown away and loved the final results. Scroll down to see more of our process.

We loved the Volvo look and we wanted to build on that.

The Volvo branding and marketing material is colorful, bold, and full of geometric elements. We loved that look and wanted to lean into that as much as possible. So, we took their marketing images and built them out in 3D. This brought their marketing material to life and allowed us to push the look in a really fun way.

Lets go behind the scenes

For bringing these 3D scenes to life we went in and recreated several of Volvo’s existing marketing images. We then built on that to create scenes that were unique to this project but felt like they could have come straight from the marketing department. Using a 3D model of the XC60, we rigged the car in Cinema 4D. This allowed us to have the wheels spinning, car tilt and body rotation and all the life-accurate movements that you would expect from a several ton vehicle. From there we built out the textures, lighting, and environments to really bring everything to life. See below for a few simplified breakdowns of how we pulled this off.

Hope you enjoyed this project breakdown. Reach out if you or your company has a need for 3D or 2D animation, we would love to hear from you!
